Lun
Lun is a local villager from Takeo province’s Samrong district, Cambodia. She is 42 years old and a mother blessed with two children. Nowadays, only one son is still in school. For her, 3 hectares of rice cropping and working at a construction site are the main sources of her family income. From the current business that she has been involved with for ages, she has returns of about 33,000 KHR (Cambodian riels) per day.

This is the second loan for Lun with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). She has fully repaid the past loan already, and it has enabled her to support her living in a gradual pace; especially, she can buy decent food for her family and keep her kid in school.

Now, her son wants to pursue his bachelor's degree, specializing in banking. Therefore, she is applying for an education loan to pay for her son’s tuition fee. She hopes that her son can obtain a good job after graduation to support the family.

VisionFund Cambodia has designed a lower-interest rate loan product for students, given the financial benefits associated with financing this loan upfront on Kiva. It is disbursed to the borrower in annual installments.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
