Originally from Kampong Cham province’s Ou Reang Ov district, Nim is 37 years old and married. She has three children, two of whom still rely on her, as one is helping with the household chores and a remaining one is in school. To deal with the daily cost of living, she grows paddy rice and cassava on 3 hectares each of farmland with the support from her husband. The current business has returned her about 38,000 KHR (Cambodian riels) per day.
Nim joins VisionFund (Kiva’s partner) as a first-loan-cycle client. She will spend her requested loan in the amount of 4,000,000 KHR in order to buy potash and pay plowing fees for her rice farm, and to pay labor costs for her cassava farm. She hopes that she can gain a high profit to better her lifestyle.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
