Laing, 49 years old and a mother of five children, one of whom is in school, is a local farmer who does rice farming on one hectare of land. Besides farming which is the main source of the family income, she is also a sweets seller whereas her husband is a house-builder. This business, which she has been with for ages, earns her about 27,000 KHR.

Laing has never been with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner) before. To fulfill her son’s dream of pursuing a Bachelor's degree, majoring in Informatics and Economics, she is applying for an education loan with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner) to pay her son's tuition fee. She hopes that this loan will provide financial support for her son’s education in a timely manner so that her son can pay attention to his study and get good grades. Thereby her son can obtain a good job after graduation to support the family.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
