Alice is 48 years old and lives in Montserrado County, the largest free port and the number-one commercial county in Liberia. Alice is a widow with six children between the ages of 22 to 25. She stopped her education at fourth grade, and for the past five years she has been selling charcoal in the local market. She started this business with money given to her by her sisters and brothers. She enjoys her business because it is the only means she has of surviving. She sells six days a week, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and most of the time she uses a taxi to get her goods to her shop. Alice is requesting a loan to purchase more charcoal for her business. Her plans are to build a house and own the biggest charcoal shop in the local market area.
