Mapuni is a 68 years old and married with 4 children. She has a huge plantation where she grows taro, banana and yam that she can sell in her community or at the market. She has been doing this for more than 10 years. Mapuni needs a loan to buy a wheelbarrow, weed sprayer, bush knives, chemicals and spades. She has been a member of SBPD since 2010. Mapuni will use the profits from her sales to support her family and to save for unexpected emergencies.
South Pacific Business Development (SPBD) improves conditions for families living in poverty by providing accessible credit, training, and guidance to help them start, grow and maintain micro-businesses, build assets, finance home improvements, and afford to educate their children. 99% of SPBD’s loans go to women, who can borrow in groups to guarantee one another rather than put up collateral.
