Mr. Chhum B. is a fisherman from Thnort Village in Kampong Thom Province. His wife is a fish-paste seller in the market and they have three children, all of whom are in school. Due to a growing fishing industry, B. is asking for a loan to purchase more fishing equipment. The loan will help him expand his business and hopefully increase his family’s income. Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
