Anderson is married and has four children; three of them are still in school. They reside in Nkubu, in the Meru region of Eastern Kenya. He has practiced farming for the past fifteen years, growing tea, fruits, and vegetables and selling them locally. Besides farming, he is a mason.
He has requested a loan from Juhudi Kilimo of KES 50,000 for purchasing irrigation equipment to improve the supply of water from the main source to his farm. This will improve his level of production. The major challenges he faces in his farming are drought, pests and diseases.
In the next five years, he wants to venture into dairy farming. This loan will help him in uplifting his family's living standards.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
