The spouses jointly provide for household needs. In order to do so, Julienne has been selling kitchen utensils and soap via a distribution system for 20 years. With the goal of bolstering her business and meeting customer demand, Julienne has joined forces with the other members of the Hodonou group to apply for a new loan from ALIDé. Their prior loans have been duly repaid.

HODONOU est un groupe de trois personnes, dont les membres résident dans le même quartier. La représentante du groupe, nommée Julienne est celle qui a la main levée sur la photo. Julienne est âgée de 32 ans. Julienne n'a pas fréquenté l'école. Julienne est mariée à un certain Samuel. Le couple a deux enfants tous scolarisés et à leur charge. Julienne vit ensemble avec son mari et ses enfants. Le couple assure ensemble les charges de la maison. Pour ce faire, Julienne vend des ustensiles de cuisine et des savons depuis vingt ans par la méthode de distribution. Julienne s'approvisionne dans un marché du Bénin. Dans le but de renforcer son activité et de satisfaire la demande de sa clientèle, Julienne s’associe avec les autres membres du groupe HODONOU pour consentir un autre crédit auprès de ALIDé. Les prêts antérieurs ont été bien remboursés.

Alidé is a Beninese NGO that works to reduce poverty by offering sustainable access to productive loans like this one in addition to savings, training sessions, and social work to low-income families.

Supporters of this loan should be aware that there is some risk of being repaid late. Because the Beninois Ministry of Finance has imposed restrictions on the amount of money Alidé can send to Kiva, the organization can only send monthly repayments in installments smaller than $13,000. This means that some Kiva lenders may receive their repayments late. However, Alidé remains a healthy institution in good standing with its creditors, and Kiva would like to continue working to support its clients.
