Antonio is a 62-year-old man living in Puntod, Lopez Jaena, Misamis Occidental. He owns and manages his sari sari (convenience) store business, selling goods in the local community. For 14 years, he's been earning 5,000 PHP (Philippines pesos) a month for a living.
In 2008, he joined GDMPC and recently requested a loan of 50,000 PHP to purchase additional products like canned goods, noodles, sugar and coffee. Antonio plans to use his revenue and part of this loan to expand his business.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
