Candida Natalia
Cándida is a happy, plucky and enterprising 48-year old woman and she always dreams big. Cándida only completed the first three years of primary school. She is married and receives support from her husband who works with Cándida. The couple have a son who is still dependent on his parents and lives under the same roof. Cándida has a lot of experience in her trade, which she learned from her parents from a very young age. She decided to continue with this work when her parents provided her with a piece of land to grow crops on and to generate her own income. The land is four kilometres from her home and she gets there on an animal.

Cándida is applying for a loan in order to buy fertilisers, manure and pest-control substances for her coffee crops. Nowadays these types of products are very expensive and if there is a blight that affects the crops, without quick treatment the entire crop can become contaminated and the whole harvest lost.

Cándida's dreams for the future include having a larger coffee plantation which continues to do well, to provide support for the family and, perhaps, it will last so that her children and grandchildren will be able to live off of it too. Cándida hopes that future generations will be able to profit from her and her husband's efforts.

More information about this loan

These loans are designed for female farmers who produce a variety of products (onion, garlic, eggplant, spinach, mango, strawberries, etc.). Loan terms will vary depending on need, and borrowers can choose to make a "bullet" payment timed with harvest profits. Agricultural loans are considered risky in Honduras due to external forces like unpredictable weather and worldwide crop prices. As a result, many traditional financial institutions are unwilling to offer these loans. With Kiva funding, COMIXMUL will be able to reach more borrowers with agricultural loans tailored to their needs.
