Ana Francisca
Ana is an enterprising, hardworking, 34-year-old woman. She is married and has four children, only one of whom is in school, with the others helping out with different chores such as cleaning, cutting, fertilizing, fumigating, etc. She completed her primary education through the sixth grade and she was unable to continue studying past that because her parents did not support her financially. They were the ones who taught her to grow coffee, which has been a family business for a long time, spanning generations, and which she now does with her husband. They own the land they cultivate thanks to the hard work and dedication they put in, going without many things so they would not have to rent and work. Their land is about 6km from their home and they get to it by driving.

She is currently asking for help to buy manure, fertilizers, and other supplies to keep her crops from being infected with stem rust and other diseases that diminish the produce's quality.

Her plan for the future is to have a large plantation that will offer variety to her customers and to anyone who consumes her produce. This will allow her to make more profits and help her strengthen the inheritance she leaves her children and grandchildren so that they will keep working the land from generation to generation.

More information about this loan

These loans are designed for female farmers who produce a variety of products (onion, garlic, eggplant, spinach, mango, strawberries, etc.). Loan terms will vary depending on need, and borrowers can choose to make a "bullet" payment timed with harvest profits. Agricultural loans are considered risky in Honduras due to external forces like unpredictable weather and worldwide crop prices. As a result, many traditional financial institutions are unwilling to offer these loans. With Kiva funding, COMIXMUL will be able to reach more borrowers with agricultural loans tailored to their needs.
