In this Group: Shazia, Gulnaz, Nageena
Shazia is a 47-year-old woman living in Rawalpindi, Pakistan with her spouse and five children. Since 2009, her husband has been running a small vegetable shop. This is the only source of income for their family. Due to an increase in the demand from the customers, Shazia has requested a loan from Kiva's partner BRAC Pakistan. She is the member of a 3 person group and will use the loan for the expansion of her husband's shop. With the loan investment, her husband will buy a variety of fresh vegetables that will allow him to offer more varieties to his clients and increase his sales and income. He would also build one more room to add some more space to his shop. Her husband is a very hardworking and honest man and is confident about his family’s bright future.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
