The communal bank “REYES” is about to begin its fifth cycle in Pro Mujer, as part of the Central Focus of Senkata. This group is made up of eight members and has a governing board headed by Jeovana, the president. The members of this group run a variety of businesses which include, a neighborhood store, a bag store, a butcher's shop, a natural fruit and juice business, a shoe store, and food stand. The loan the group is requesting will help the small business owners of Jeovana's communal bank group.

Jeovana has been a member of Pro Mujer for eight years. She joined the group at the invitation of a friend. Currently, Jeovana owns a shoe store that she opened with her first loan through the institution. This new loan will help Jeovana to increase her capital so that she can buy shoes from the city fair in Oruro to later sell in her store. This will help Jeovana (who lives with her partner and son) to help her family pay its household expenses.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, Jeovana says that she enjoys the training sessions on the topics of health, credit, and savings.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
