The members of the group know each other through being neighbours, friends and business associates. In the interest of increasing their capital and improving their businesses, they are members of the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution. This is their first loan.
These women trade various food products such as vegetables, like Bintou, who is shown sitting down in the photo. With her loan, Bintou is going to buy five baskets of cucumbers from gardeners in neighbouring villages. She sells to individuals at the market and from home, both for cash and on credit. The majority of her customers are women.
Bintou expects to make an average of 40,000 CFA francs per month, which will be re-invested in the business and used to repay the loan.

Elle compte acheter avec son prêt, 5 paniers de concombre avec les jardiniers des villages voisins. Elle effectue ses ventes au marché et à domicile, en détail au comptant et à crédit à une clientèle composée d’hommes et de femmes.
Elle envisage réaliser un bénéfice mensuel moyen de 40.000FCFA qui sera investi dans les activités et rembourser le prêt.

This is a Group Loan
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
