BENKADI Group is made up of five married women, who average 34 years of age and three children. They live in extended traditional families in HEREMAKONO NORD, a neighborhood in Bougouni. They got acquainted through bonds of community, friendship, and business.

To bolster their financial capacity and improve their businesses, they joined Kiva's partner, the MFI Soro Yiriwaso, from which they are seeking their third loan. The previous two were repaid without problems.

The women in this group sell clothing, as does Assan, which is the one sitting in the photograph. She intends to use her loan to buy two bales of used clothing from wholesalers in Bamako.

She retails in the market and at her home, for cash and on credit, to a clientele comprising mostly women. She foresees turning an average monthly profit of XOF 35'000 (ca US$ 70), that she will use to repay the loan and invest in her business.

Le groupe BENKADI est constitué de 5 femmes toutes mariées ayant une moyenne d’âge de 34 ans et 3 enfants. Elles vivent dans des familles traditionnelles élargies dans le quartier HEREMAKONO NORD de la ville de Bougouni.
Elles se sont connues à travers des liens de voisinage, d’amitié et de commerce. Pour renforcer leur capacité financière afin de mieux faire leur commerce, elles ont adhéré à l’institution de microfinance Soro Yiriwaso avec laquelle elles sont à leur troisième prêt. Les 2 précédents prêts ont été correctement remboursés. Ce groupe de femmes fait le commerce d’habillements à l’image de ASSAN, elle est la femme assise dans la photo. Elle compte acheter avec son prêt, 2 balles de friperie avec les grossistes de Bamako. Elle effectue ses ventes au marché et à domicile, en détail au comptant et à crédit à une clientèle composée essentiellement de femmes.
Elle envisage réaliser un bénéfice mensuel moyen de 35.000FCFA qui sera investi dans les activités et rembourser le prêt.

Soro Yiriwaso is a microfinance institution that works primarily in rural and semi-urban areas of Mali to provide underprivileged communities with access to financial services.The organization facilitates access for disadvantaged clients, particularly women, to new resources and services, fostering solidarity and cooperation among its clients. Kiva lenders’ funds will enable Soro Yiriwaso to expand its outreach and target even more underserved Malians involved in business and agriculture.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee.
