Seymur S. is a 27-year-old man who has been selling tableware, vacuum cleaners, irons and other products in the small village of Sabirabad since 2000. Most of his customers are brides and recently-married people. This kind of store is very popular in Azerbaijan. Seymur would like to expand his business so he has applied for a loan of $1200.
Aqroinvest Credit Union was founded by a group of 32 Imishli farmers in 2001, and has grown to become one of the largest credit unions in Azerbaijan. It boasts a portfolio of nearly $5 million and is wholly owned by its more than 3,500 borrowers, as of December 2011.
