Akio is from Samburu. She is 46 years old and married with seven children. They live in their own home. Two of the children are already grown-up, have jobs, and are independent.
Akio has run a store for over three years, which is going very well, because she says that she has a loyal customer base thanks to her excellent service, in addition to being the best-stocked store in the neighborhood. This combination of factors means that she is enjoying lots of success.
She dreams of being able to continue to grow, so that she earns enough to help her husband with the household expenses. She is requesting this loan to buy drinks, sugar, rice, flour and other items, as these are the best-selling products. She is grateful for the help she is receiving. It will be very useful.

This loan is administered by Yehu Microfinance Trust, which was founded in 1998 as a project of CHOICE Humanitarian Kenya. In July 2007, Yehu became a separate entity from CHOICE and was registered as a trust. Since then, Yehu has expanded to cover over half of Kenya’s 13 coastal districts.
