Osvaldo makes a living raising cattle to produce milk, which he sells at one of the industrial milk plants in La Paz. He lives with his wife and young daughter in his own house in the community of Tahari in the Achacachi area of Omasuyos Province in the department of La Paz, about two-and-a-half hours from the city of La Paz.

Osvaldo has some head of improved-breed cattle that require better care, given the area climate conditions. He needs the loan to buy construction material--cement, bricks, etc.--so he can repair the livestock stable and improve his production while preserving the cows' good health.

Osvaldo's dream is to increase his head of cattle and ensure their good health.

This is the first time he has requested a loan from IMPRO and the first time from Kiva.

IMPRO is a small non-profit organization that has been offering micro credit to the working poor in the Bolivian cities of La Paz and El Alto since 1995. IMPRO’s goal is to fight poverty by offering loans to small business owners who cannot access credit through the regular banking system due to a lack of guarantees or collateral.

To ensure that everyone has access to credit, IMPRO maintains a low interest rate by minimizing operational costs. IMPRO’s partnership with Kiva, which began in 2007, has allowed IMPRO to expand its services while maintaining these low interest rates.
