Rose lives in Kampala, Uganda. She is married and has two children, both of whom attend school. She does not look after any additional family members. Rose has been selling charcoal on a wholesale and retail basis in the market and hiring out tents for the last twenty years, working five days a week. She has applied for a loan of 400,000 UGX to enable her purchase more bags of charcoal and chairs for hiring out. She also decorates venues for weddings and parties to earn more income. Her main business challenges include a having small capital base. She would like to get more tents and chairs and to provide employment for the youth in her community. She joined MCDT because she did not have enough capital for her business. She is renting a house without both electricity and piped water. Her monthly expenses include rent and school fees.
