Shown in the picture above is Moses, a borrower who has come to SMT, one of Kiva's partners in Sierra Leone, to request a loan of 1,200,000 SLL. With the help of this loan, Moses will be able to expand his business. He will use it to buy more rice to add to his current stock.
Moses is a native of Masposo village in northern Sierra Leone. He is 39 years old and is married with 8 children. Three of his children are attending primary school and 5 are attending secondary schools. Moses is on staff at a sugar producing company and has been working in this company for 10 years now. However, in addition to his work at the sugar producing company, he also sells rice and has been a businessman for 5 years now.

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT) is Kiva’s oldest field partner in Sierra Leone. SMT began operations in 2002 as a microcredit program of the NGO Child Fund Sierra Leone under a USAID program to assist the reintegration of ex combatants back into their communities. Today, SMT offers group, agricultural, individual and salary loans to micro-entrepreneurs through six branches and one sub-branch in rural, urban, and peri-urban areas.
