Gualberto
Gualberto and his wife live in the community of Colomi; he’s 25-years-old and has lived with his spouse for more than five years. They have a little boy who attends school. They are independent economically. They work in agriculture planting a 1.5 hectare parcel of land inherited from his parents. He produces potato and ‘papaliza’ [a tuber] rotating his crops; he has experience in this line of work. He also owns four head of cattle: three dairy cows and one calf.

Gualberto needs to finish building his house which is why he came to request a loan to finish the finishing touches on his house since he used the savings he had to buy farm supplies and for his house’s construction.

Lastly, Gualberto and his wife felt happy to have the opportunity of accessing credit and also to be able to count on support from the institution in order to be able to finish building their house.

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
