The communal bank “ROSITAS 25 DE JULIO” will begin its 7th loan cycle with Pro Mujer, as part of the Centro Focal de Los Andes. The bank has eight members, and Susana is the president of its board. The members have various businesses: a carpentry workshop, making macramé, selling fruits, weaving blankets and gaiters, making alpaca wool clothing and sweaters, and running a local store.

This loan benefits micro businesses such as Susana's. She said she joined Pro Mujer three years ago at the invitation of a friend who is part of the institution. She now has a business making and selling signs, which she started with her husband. They worked together in the business before they married.

This loan will increase working capital to buy iron sheets from wholesale dealers to make signs to sell. This work generates income to support the family, as she is married and has three children. When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she mentioned the health center.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
