Ratha is 24 years old and lives in a rural area located in the Kandal Steong district of Kandal province. He has been farming rice and growing vegetables for five years. He is able to earn about US $4 per day from his current business. He sometimes works as a paid construction worker in the local area to earn additional income for the family.
This is the first microloan for Ratha with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund. He is requesting a loan of 1,200,000 KHR to buy fertilizers for his farmland. He will also use a portion of the loan to renovate his old house. He hopes this loan will enable him to get a high yield from his rice paddy field.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
