Run, 57, lives with his wife and three children in a rural village of the Dambae district of Kampong Cham province, Cambodia. He and his wife have struggled to feed their family by farming rice and growing cassava on an almost three-hectare farmland in which they have been in the business for twenty-seven years. Together, they can earn about $13 USD per day and manage to save about $5 USD each day for the future.
Run has been with VisionFund for three cycles and completely paid back the past loans which have helped him better support his family with enough food. Now he is applying for a loan with VisionFund. With this loan, he is going to buy fertilizer and seeds for his farmland and use a portion of it to spend on labor fees in plowing the field. He hopes to grow his rice and cassava healthily to make a living better.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
