Sopheap, who lives in Pursat province, is 34 years old. She is married and a mother of three little kids. She does rice farming on two hectares of land, as the main source of family income. For extra income, her husband works for others for a fee in addition. Having been involved in the current business for ages, she is able to earn up to 24,400 KHR per day.
Sopheap has been with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner) for two loan cycles, including this loan. She managed to repay her past loan with success, and it has upgraded her business in a gradual manner. Now, she is seeking to borrow 2,000,000 KHR. She will use it in order to smooth her farmland for replanting season. She hopes that she can grow her rice on time and make a good profit, for her kids' sake.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
