Lucía Guillermina
Lucía Guillermina is 51 years old and a teacher who has been in the field for more than 30 years. She is very admired for having taught thousands of Saucan (from the City of Sauce) students to read and write and who have become great professionals and helped develop Nicaragua.

She is the mother of three school-aged children to whom she has provided a dignified life full of love and wellbeing with her humble teacher’s salary. With the help of loans she was able to build a home of her own and she has been improving it little by little over the years.

She is grateful to Kiva and Ceprodel because they have supported and provided a little grain of sand to this family in need.

She is asking for a loan in order to improve her patio cover, which is in bad shape and she needs to provide better security for her family.

She will use the money to buy bricks, cement, sand, iron bars, and pay for labor. She trusts in God that her request will be approved and she will be able to make this investment.

Additional Information

This loan is administered by Centro de Promocion del Desarrollo Local (CEPRODEL), one of Kiva’s larger partners in Central America. Founded in 1991 and based in Managua, Nicaragua, CEPRODEL specializes in the development and funding of housing cooperatives for traditionally marginalized communities, the provision of microfinance services to small businesses, and the promotion of innovative renewable energy projects. In addition, unlike many microfinance institutions in the area that have chosen to avoid the rural areas of the country due to the increased financial risk, CEPRODEL provides financial services to numerous clients in the agriculture and livestock industry. Supporting a borrower through CEPRODEL means contributing to the promotion and sustainability of this important work in Nicaragua.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
