In this Group: Justina , Adela, Lucia , Sandra Yovana, Juana , Pilar
Communal bank 'Las Margaritas del Oriente' (the name means 'Marguerites of the East') is starting its first cycle with field partner Pro Mujer, in the framework of the focus centre of Panamericana. It has six members and an executive board, with Justina as president. The members of the group are engaged in various activities, among them food sales, ice-cream sales, and spices and peeled garlic sales. This loan will thus benefit a group of very small entrepreneurs, among them Justina. She tells us that this is her first time working with Pro Mujer. She got to know the field partner thanks to a spokesperson, who came to visit her at her house. Justina operates a food stall, as she learned cooking many years ago, when she was working in a restaurant. She now has her own business. She will use this loan to increase her working capital and buy rice, cooking oil, and pasta from the markets of El Alto. She will then prepare food to sell from her stall. The income Justina derives from her business enables her to help with household expenses, since she is married and has two children. When asked what she likes about working with Pro Mujer, she talks about health care.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
