Erlinda, age 59, owns and operates a cocoa farm in his local community to earn a living. She has been engaged in her business for over eight years and earns PhP 8,000 per month. She and her husband have three children and live in Calamba, Misamis Occidental.
Erlinda has joined GDMPC in order to gain access to financial services. Her goal is to help improve her living situation and increase her ability to engage in business activities.
She will use her loan funds to buy fertilizer, such as manure, to use in her farm. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to improve the general living conditions of her family.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
