Javier, 33, is married living with his wife and two children who are his main priority. He intends to use the loan to buy needed supplies like manure, insecticide and herbicide to keep his crops in good condition. He has several years’ experience growing coffee which leads him to the need for this investment to improve his crops. He also hopes thus to obtain a very good harvest so that he can repay the loan. At the same time, he plans to increase his crop yield and generate good income to support his family.

This is his first loan from Fudecosur. He’s had no previous loans with state banks and Fudecosur has offered him the best terms and a much lower interest rate.

Javier, tiene la edad de 33 años, está casado y vive con su esposa y 2 hijos que son su mayor prioridad. El con el crédito pretende comprar los insumos necesarios como abonos, plaguicidas y herbicidas para mantener su cultivo en buen estado. El cuenta con varios años ya de experiencia en el manejo de café por lo cual ve como necesario esta inversión para mejorar su cultivo. El espera también así poder obtener del mismo una muy buena cosecha para salir con los repagos del préstamo. A su vez piensa incrementar su cosecha y generar más ingresos económicos para el bienestar de su familia. Es el primer préstamo que recibido de FUDECOSUR. El no había tenido antes otros préstamos en bancos estatales, pero FUDECOSUR le ha brindado el préstamo con mayores facilidades y la tasa de intereses mucho más baja.

FUDECOSUR works in one of the poorest regions of Costa Rica, where microfinance institutions (MFIs) are scarce or have a hard time keeping up with demand for small loans. By providing mostly agricultural loans, FUDECOSUR reaches rural borrowers that many MFIs consider to be too risky. However, this has also made it more difficult for the organization to find stable sources of capital to lend.
