Roeun is 43 years old and a married mother of five children. She is a peasant who does rice farming, peanut planting, and corn growing in order to deal with the daily basic needs of the family. Her 20 years involvement in the current business has returned her about 37,000 KHR per day. This is the first time for Roeun with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner) and she is seeking for 2,000,000 KHR in order to lease an additional plot of farmland for growing more corn. She hopes to gain a high yield from her various businesses and make a good profit for the sake of her family.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
