A corn grower from Battambang province, Sokny is 46 years old and has two children. She has been planting corn for 11 years and is able to earn about 34,000 KHR per day. Now, she is short of working capital to support her farmland. Therefore, she is taking her first loan with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner) to overcome this challenge.
Sokny is seeking 1,500,000 KHR in order to pay for plowing fees, lease farmland, and to buy seeds and potash. She hopes to earn more profit so she can maintain good living conditions for her family.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
