Sophea, 32, is married and blessed with three little kids all residing in Battambang province. The rest of his family relies on the agricultural activity of corn and cassava cultivation. This is the business that he has engaged in for 10 years and is able to generate about 20,000 KHR per day. Sophea is new to VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). He is seeking his first loan of 2,500,000 KHR in order to buy seeds, potash, insecticide, and to plow his farmland. Additionally, he will also use a portion of it to lease a plot of farmland to grow more cash-crops. He hopes that his loan will help him to make triple income so that he can set aside savings for his children when they are aged for schooling.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
