Living in a wooden house in the Moung Russey district of Battambang province, Kim is 63 years old and married with six children. The main sources of his family’s income are rice farming and cow raising. Kim has been in this business for ten years. With the current business, he can earn about 29,000 KHR per day.
This is the fourth loan for Kim with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund, and he completely paid back the prior loans. He successfully used the past loan to improve his livelihood. Now he is applying for another loan of 4,000,000 KHR to buy fertilizer and seeds for his cultivated land and use a portion of it on labor fees. He hopes to increase his crop yield and sell it for a good price so as to improve his standard of living.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
