Saumu lives in the Mariakani area of the Coast province in Kenya. She owns a retail business where she sells fish to help support her six children. She began her work life by helping a friend sell fish, then went into business for herself after learning the trade. Her main challenge is spoilage and perishability, and she looks forward to solving this problem by acquiring a freezer. Saumu was introduced to Milango by her friends and now is applying for a loan of 41,850 Kenyan shillings to buy a freezer. She will use the extra income made possible by this loan to pay for her children’s education.
