The main sources of her family’s income are from rice farming and cassava planting. Her husband works as a paid worker in the local area to earn additional income for the family. Sinat and her husband have been in this business for ten years. With the current business, she can earn about KHR 16,000 per day.
This is the fourth loan for Sinat with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund Cambodia and she completely paid back the previous loans. She successfully used the past loan to improve her livelihood.
Now leading her group to apply for a loan with VisionFund Cambodia of KHR 1,400,000 each, Sinat is going to use a portion of her loan to buy fertilizer for her farmland and a portion to spend on labor. She hopes to increase her crop yield and to sell it for a good price, so as to keep her children in school.
About VisionFund CambodiaVisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
