Kolab, 52 and married, is a farmer from the Bovel district of Battambang province. She has eight children, but only two of them are dependent on her as they are still in school. To feed her family, she does rice cropping on a five hectare area; it is the only source of income. Her 13 years in the current business returns about 41,000 KHR per day.
Kolab, a first-time borrower with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner), is seeking for a loan of 2,500,000 KHR to buy a mini-tractor to support her farmland.
She hopes this purchase will help her reduce expenses related to the plowing fee, and will enable her to gain more income.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
