The Superacion group is made up of two female members. The leader is Miss Maria, age 54, who owns a corner store that sells basic items in the Villa Fátima neighborhood. This loan will be her first with this lender and she plans to use it to buy merchandise, such as packaged foods and soft drinks to stock her store. The reason she is taking out this loan is the intense demand that she sees and the increasing sales that go with it, making it necessary for her to stock up on merchandise. Maria faces a number of challenges in her business, including the competition from the many other stores in her area. She will use the gains from this new merchandise to keep her store stocked and keep on growing day by day. This is a Group Loan
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
