Mariam is married with five children and only four of her children go to school. She also takes care of her sister. She has a beauty salon business and has been in this business for seven years. She has applied for a loan of 1,300,000 Uganda shillings from MCDT-SACCO to buy more boxes of cream, relaxers, braids, hair oils and a hair dryer. She generates additional income from selling maize flour and soda.
She works in her shop six days out of every week. Her major business challenges includes transportation, seasonality and on-and-off electricity. She is wanting to own a fully stocked beauty salon and also to continue building more rental rooms. She resides in her own house where the family has access to electricity and piped water. Her monthly expenses include school fees and utility bills.
