Joy is a 45-year-old widow. Her husband drowned in a lake in 2012, and she was left with the responsibility of looking after six school-going children. After realizing that relying solely on agriculture could not meet her day-to-day needs, she started selling clothes to supplement her seasonal income from agriculture. Currently, Joy boasts of serving as a role model widow who has been able to pay her children’s school fees up to the university level.

Joy currently faces a challenge of limited working capital, since most of her children have reached high school and the money withdrawn from the business to pay tuition now affects her capital. She has therefore applied for a loan of UGX 1,500,000 but is being granted only UGX 1,000,000 to buy cow dung to mulch her banana plantation. She will use the surplus to boost her working capital. She is hard-working and honest.
