Lao
A local citizen from Takeo Province, Lao is 51 years old, married, and blessed with six children. For her family, rice-cropping and pig-raising are the main sources of the family’s income. Her husband also helps to earn income through playing traditional music during wedding ceremonies and owning a small rice mill machine. She has been engaged in her current business for 31 years. This is Lao's fourth loan with VisionFund, Kiva’s partner. She has repaid her past loans wisely in order to upgrade her living and her business. For this cycle, she is taking out the loan to pay for the university tuition of her daughter, who is a freshman majoring in finance and banking. She hopes that her daughter does not need to worry about financial issues related to her studies so she can pay attention to pursuing her academic degree and getting a good job after graduation.

VisionFund Cambodia has designed a lower-interest rate loan product for students, given the financial benefits associated with financing this loan upfront on Kiva. It is disbursed to the borrower in annual installments.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
