Originally from the Thmor Koul district of Battambang province, Bopha is 54 years old and a married mother with eight children.
To earn a living, she and her husband grow corn on two hectares of land. They have been doing this for 30 years. Her husband uses his spare time to earn extra income by driving a taxi.
Bopha is a first-time borrower with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). She is seeking a loan to buy a decent car for husband to drive to earn extra income in his taxi business. She hopes to earn a high yield and relieve her family’s burden.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
