Sakhuon, a mother of five children, is 52 years old and married. She is a local villager from Thmor Koul district of Battambang province.
To support her living, she farms on a one-hectare area. To earn extra income, her husband also works for others for a fee and makes chicken coops for sale. She has engaged in the current business for 20 years.
She is a sixth-time borrower with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). She has used her past loans with success to support her living in a good manner and has fully repaid them. Now, she is seeking 2,000,000 KHR to buy rice seed and to pay for plowing and labor fees. She hopes that she can gain a high yield and make more income for the family.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
