The Pan-American focal center (of Pro-Mujer Bolivia) is located in the city of El Alto. The "Franz Tamayo" association belongs to this center; a group that works with a lot of responsibility toward their loans and internal activities. Among those inside the group, many lack basic services in their houses. For example Doña Catita can not rely on drinking water which should be supplied by public water basins. This is a problem because they only supply water in the mornings and even then only for a few hours. She longs to be able to have this service in her residence.

The main activity of this group is the weaving of blankets and making of ‘polleras’ (typical clothing of some regions of Bolivia) that they then sell in the market called ‘16th of July’ of the city of El Alto. At present they want to be able to expand their merchandise and to offer other types of products, such as shoes and sweaters. They need greater capital for the acquisition of materials to make these. They have confidence to improve their income, and in this manner to also improve the quality of life of their families

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
