Maribel Celestina
Maribel, 39, lives in the city of Pisco, a city with a warm climate, beautiful beaches and popular touristic attractions, like the Ballestas islands and the Paracas Candelabra. There are also many agricultural activities, especially cotton and corn plantations. Maribel is a hardworking woman, but when she has some free time, she likes to play volleyball with her friends from her neighborhood and sometimes she enjoys having a delicious “aji de gallina,” one of her favorite dishes.

Due to her parents’ lack of resources, she could study only up to the fifth year of secondary school, but she would have liked to study to become a nurse. Maribel works every day in agriculture. She has a small piece of land where she is growing corn. She works around nine hours every day and thanks to her work, she is able to pay for her home expenses and to support her parents. She believes she does well because she likes her job and because of her will to succeed.

Maribel wants to thank Kiva lenders, since this is the second time they give her their great support. This time, she will buy insecticides, fertilizers and other supplies, in order to have a healthy plantation and a good harvest. She will continue working every day to make her dream come true: to acquire more land and become a great entrepreneur.
