Gibson Miriti resides in Nkubu, Meru Region of Eastern Kenya. He is thirty-one years of age, married and has two children, one of whom is of school-going age. He has been an active farmer for over ten years, planting bananas and other horticultural crops.
Gibson approached Juhudi Kilimo for a loan request of KES 60,000, which will be used for the purchase of irrigation equipment. This equipment will be used for irrigating his crops, and thus produce a higher yield. Hence, this will help him pay school fees for his children.
In the future, he wants to acquire a pick-up for easy transportation of his produce to the market place.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
