Judith is thirty-six years of age, married and has two children, both of whom are in school. She resides with her family in Nkubu, Meru Region of Eastern Kenya, where she has practiced farming for over twenty years, producing bananas and cereals.
Judith requested a loan from Juhudi Kilimo of KES 60,000 to purchase irrigation equipment. Through this equipment, water will flow to her farm and her crops, and it will result in a greater yield. Thus, their living standards will improve.
In the next five years, Judith wants to have a pick-up to make transportation of her products easy. Her main challenges are lack of capital and crop pests and diseases.
She appreciates Juhudi for funding her.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
