Pes was born 45 years ago in the Dambae district of Kampong Cham Province. She is married and the mother of nine children, seven of whom are still in school. She and her husband are farmers and have been in this line of work for 25 years. Their farm is the family's main source of income, but Pes also works for others for a fee. From her work, she is able to earn about KHR 13,000 per day. Pes has taken out two previous loans from VisionFund and repaid both after using them to improve her family's standard of living. She is now confidently leading a four-person loan group which is requesting a new loan. She will use her portion of it to buy fertilizer and seeds for her farmland. She goal is to raise a good cash crop so that she can earn a larger profit and keep her children in school until graduation.

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
