A 43-year-old mother residing in a village located in the Prey Chhor district of Kampong Cham province, Sreang is a farmer who makes a living through rice farming. She has nine children in total, five of whom still count on her as three of them are still in school while another two are too young for schooling.
To earn extra income, her husband also works at a construction site as a paid worker. This is the first loan for Sreang with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). Now, she wants to start up a new business for extra income, pig-raising. Therefore, she is taking out this new loan to buy pigs and build a pigpen. She highly hopes that she can raise her pigs in a healthy condition whereby she can earn more income to better her living conditions.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
