Sokhorn, a mother of two children residing in Dambae district, of Kampong Cham province, is a farmer who does rice and cassava cultivation to support her daily cost of living. She has engaged in the current business for four years and is able to earn up to 28,500 KHR per day.
Sokhorn is in her second loan cycle with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). She has wisely used her past loan to support her business progressively, especially for her cassava crop. She has completely repaid her past loan, too. Now, she is seeking a new loan of 4,000,000 KHR. She will use it to buy insecticide, and to pay fees for ploughing and weeding the farmland. She hopes to grow her cash-crops on time and get a yield at least double the past one, so that she can make more profit for her kids' sake.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
