Kimsun, 52, is married and has five children. Her main source of family income is from two hectares of rice farming, and her husband is the manpower supplier. She has been involved in the current business for 32 years. Currently, she is able to earn up to 27,700 Riel (KHR) per day.
Kimsun is not a first-time borrower with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). She has used her previous loan in an effective way to improve her livelihood at a gradual pace. Now, she is seeking a loan of 3,000,000 KHR. She will use it to buy a plot of farmland, potash, rice seed, and to pay a fee for plowing the land. She hopes that she can grow her crop fruitfully and gain a high yield, so she can make triple income for her family.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
